What It Affects

  • Voice/video calls, live streaming, gaming, remote desktop: these are the most sensitive to jitter — you’ll get stutters, choppy audio, and frozen frames.
  • Regular web browsing and file downloads: largely unaffected.

How to Measure It

Run ping continuously for a period and observe how much the latency swings; or use mtr to check the StDev (standard deviation) at each hop — the lower, the more stable.

Reminder

Low average latency ≠ stable connection. A server with decent average latency but high jitter will still deliver a poor experience for real-time applications. For stable, low-jitter performance, prioritize premium return routes.
